ABOUT
HERBERS AG

When Herbers Seed opened its doors, its primary business was selling seed, but Lou wanted to do more than provide a product; he wanted to help his customers be successful. He began offering consulting as well as crop scouting and soil sampling. Next, Herbers began selling crop protection chemicals with custom application, and to round out the company’s services, Lou obtained his crop insurance license. While consulting his clients, Lou was able to explain the protection they needed and match them up with the right policies.

In 2009, Herbers built a new shed and liquid fertilizer tanks, which hold up to 3 million gallons of product. In 2011, the company expanded to offer dry fertilizer, building a large facility just west of Audubon. Both the liquid and dry fertilizer plants use an automated Kahler system for custom blending. The highly technical system ensures an optimal formula for each individual farmer’s field. A heated shop was built allowing adequate space for working on equipment year-round. In 2016, the addition of an Anhydrous Ammonia plant rounded out the business to fully serve customer input needs.
